Originally created by Duck Duck Moose (who was acquired by Khan Academy in 2017), ChatterPix Kids allows students to make images talk by drawing a mouth on an image and then recording a message. This app is a fun way for students to create and demonstrate what they know and have learned in an engaging and creative manner.
While there are many other apps that allow users to animate images and make them talk, this one is designed specifically for children and is easy enough for even kindergarteners to use. It also offers more control than other apps that offer a similar function, including allowing users to draw their own mouth and record for 30 seconds or less.
Once the picture is complete, students can add text and stickers (including glasses, hats, crazy hair, eyeballs, and more), apply fun filters, and add a fancy frame. The final product can be saved to the camera roll or shared with friends and family.
This app encourages role play and teaches empathy. By pretending to be an adult, a pet, or their lunch, students are learning what those people or things might say which helps them understand how other people feel and think. This is a great tool for any classroom.
